3D Class S2 Class 03 Hard Surface Modeling Project (High res Section)

For this week we modeled a high res version of a gun. I choose to do a German Mauser C96.

I decided to take what I learned from last week and model the gun in Fusion 360. Fusion was great for making hard surface models, but I ran into a couple issues with it. Since the program is cloud based I was unable to work for a block of several hours on Sunday while the program was undergoing maintenance. I also ran into some weird save issues, but overall I do really enjoy Fusion for hard surface work.

After I finished my model I decided to take it into Zbrush to dynamesh it, polish it, and will do some additional sculpting details on it.

Here's my final renders from Fusion itself.

Once I finished all of that I took my gun into Zbrush to add additional detailing.

I then rendered it out again in Fusion.

3D Class S2 Class 02 Resurfacing, Map Baking, And Substance Painter

For this week we took our knife from last week and brought it into Maya to retopologize it.

The knife from last week in Zbrush:

I don't have much experience retopologizing and it is something I definitely need to work on. Here's the retopologized mesh in Maya. It came in at 2933 polys.

I decided to texture my knife as if it has been lost and sat somewhere for a long time, getting rusty. The texturing process was fun, but I had a lot of issues getting my high poly mesh baking to my low poly one.

I went back and fixed up my bakes, but now will need to spend some time cleaning up my textures again:

3D Class S2 Class 01 Modeling In Autodesk Fusion 360

This week we went in and learned Fusion 360 following tutorials made by a FIEA alumni named Isaac Oster.

We went and followed his tutorial videos to get an introduction to the program.

After that I followed his 10 part video series on modeling a knife.

I then pushed the final model to Zbrush.

Zbrush BPR render.

I also rendered it out in Keyshot.

Personal Project: Painterly Textured Sword

I took what I learned from the last personal project to create this sword. It was a quick text as I also wanted to work with emissive and transparency masks more.

Personal Project: Painterly Textures

I really love painterly/stylized textures so I wanted to give a shot at it. I also wanted to try out 3D coat as I have heard it's great for making painterly textures. I learned a lot making this and it was a lot of fun. I want to find a way to translate what I've learned to Substance Painter.
